Session 1: What makes up a quality exam?
- Principles of quality exam design
- Language used in exam questions
- Key terms – how these are used
- Main messages for teachers who are writing a trial/half yearly paper.
- Principles of a well designed questions (Multiple choice and extended response). \
Session 2: Developing quality questions (Facilitated group work)
- Core questions with values of 3-8 marks, including answers and marking criteria
- Option questions with either 8-12 marks with responses and marking criteria
- Multiple choice questions Core 1 and Core 2
Session 3: How can this knowledge benefit your students? (Marking simulation)
- Small groups develop answers to selected questions from Session 2.
- Answers are shared across groups and the developed rubrics and marking criteria are used to mark answers
- Discussion re: key messages for teachers when developing marking criteria and marking student responses
- Discussion re: what entails a quality response to a question.
