PTC Award 2011
Kim Rodenburg
Kim has been an active member of ACHPER NSW since 2005.
During that time, she has made an exemplary contribution to the quality of
professional learning materials and workshops for ACHPER’s PDHPE and Community
and Family Studies (CAFS) teachers.
Kim is considered one of the outstanding practitioners
and leaders in NSW for the senior Community and Family Studies course. She has
written and reviewed material for HSC enrichment days aimed at improving
students learning outcomes in the senior course, written and presented HSC
marking simulation workshops, presented engaging webinars for students
increasing their knowledge and understanding of course content. Kim was also
instrumental in identifying the need for a course for new teachers of CAFS. She
designed and delivered this highly valued course by new teachers.
Kim’s innovative and engaging professional learning
materials have led to her being asked by ACHPER to train other presenters for
PDHPE courses to increase their skills in designing and presenting professional
learning programs.
Kim’s previous roles include Curriculum Project Officer
for the NSW Department of Education and Communities and exceptional teacher at
St Johns Park High School. She has contributed to syllabus design and various
PDHPE programs and evaluations to support implementation into school programs
in New South Wales. She has developed and delivered professional learning for
sexual health education, Stage 6 PDHPE and 7-10 programming and assessment. Her
outstanding contribution to the PDHPE profession through her work with ACHPER
and her roles within the NSW Department of Education and Communities makes her
a very worthy recipient of this award.

Sharon Starkey
Sharon has been an active member of the
ACHPER NSW executive since 2009. In that time she has held the position of Counselor
– 7-12 PDHPE. Her contributions to the
work of ACHPER NSW and in particular her input into the development of key
professional development activities has been exceptional.
Sharon was one of the co-developers of the K-6
PDHPE pilot workshop that was implemented with great success this year to
support primary school teachers to effectively deliver PE and sport in their
schools. The success of this workshop has meant that three other education
regions have requested similar workshops for 2012.
Sharon is an exceptional leader on the
ACHPER board and is always keen to explore new initiatives that will meet the
needs of our members. She has her finger on the pulse of what support teachers
need in schools allowing ACHPER to be on the front foot when it comes to
designing and delivering timely professional development sessions.
Sharon is an innovative educator and leads
by example in the development of relevant and meaningful learning resources
that engage students and lead to improved learning outcomes. Sharon’s
presentations on a range of PDHPE issues that are delivered annually at the
ACHPER NSW Early Career Teachers’ Conference and the PDHPE Teachers’
Association conference are always very well received.
Sharon’s outstanding contribution to the
PDHPE profession through her work with ACHPER NSW and her role with the NSW
Department of Education and Training makes her a very worthy recipient of this
award.
