Assessing Year 12 HMS is a new one-day workshop co-designed with experienced teachers.
Join us to start designing your Year 12 HMS assessment program.
Explore key planning considerations including NESA’s school-based assessment requirements and task design that addresses weightings between Year 12 HMS skills and knowledge outcomes.
Review ways to schedule depth studies to create teaching efficiencies and build in student choice, while best preparing students for the HSC exam.
Workshop sessions include:
- Unpacking Year 12 HMS course outcomes
- Designing Year 12 school assessment tasks
- Designing processes for formative assessment
- Depth studies assessment considerations
- Assessment schedule planning.
You will be provided with a range of sample resources including:
- assessment schedules
- assessment tasks and notifications
- marking criteria
- formative assessment recording templates.

Presenters
Kyle Sutton – Head Teacher PDHPE and Languages Merewether High School
Kyle is enthusiastic and hardworking in his approach to education and has a specific focus on improving teacher quality through the use of engaging professional learning, engaging lessons and resources for student learning. Kyle holds a Bachelor of Education (Physical and Health Education) from the University of Wollongong.
Alex Walters, Deputy Head – Student Achievement, Catholic Schools Broken Bay
Alex has been teaching PDHPE for 19 years including Stage 6 PDHPE and CAFS since 2007. She has held head of Department roles from 2008-2018. Alex is also an experienced senior marker and has presented on numerous occasions for ACHPER.
ACCREDITATION
Completing the Assessing Year 11 HMS workshop will contribute 5 hours of NESA elective PD in the priority area of delivery and assessment of NSW curriculum – addressing standard descriptors 2.3.2, 5.1.2 and 5.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
