Child Studies Workshop

The purpose of the course is to increase participant understanding and knowledge of the structure and content of the updated syllabus, both for teachers’ previously delivering school developed Child Studies courses and those interested in offering the course for the first time.
The workshop will be presented as a hybrid workshop. Face to face delivery at NSW Teachers Federation, Surry Hills and also via LIVE Video Conference (via Zoom).
The program of the day will provide participants with opportunities to investigate issues such as:
* Background information about the Child Studies syllabus
- Unpacking the syllabus
- Structure of the syllabus explained,
* Content of each of the 15 modules
* Example programs and assessment tasks
* Suggested resources provided
* Creation of quality units of work and authentic assessment tasks.
Who should attend: Teachers who have previously delivered school developed Child Studies courses and those who are new to teaching the Child Studies course.
Standards achieved are:
2.2.2 Organise content into coherent, well-sequenced learning and teaching programs.
2.3.2 Design and implement learning and teaching programs using knowledge of curriculum, assessment and reporting requirements.
3.2.2 Plan and implement well structured learning or teaching programs or lesson sequences that engage students and promote learning.
5.1.2 Develop, select and use informal and formal, diagnostic, formative and summative assessment strategies to assess student learning.
Completing via hybrid delivery the Child Studies workshop, held on 19 November 2021 under NESA’s interim arrangements will contribute 5 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Elective PD in the priority area of Delivery and assessment of NSW curriculum addressing standard descriptors 2.2.2, 2.3.2, 3.2.2, 5.1.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
