Registration is now open for ACHPER ACT’s ‘Teaching the Australian Curriculum Health
Benefits of Physical Activity Focus Area in Year 5/6’ Breakfast Symposium, to be held at the
Headley Beare Centre for Teaching and Learning on Friday 29th November 2019 from 7.00am to 8.30am.
You are warmly invited to attend this third consecutive annual breakfast symposium to discuss how ACT Year 5/6 teachers teach the Australian Curriculum Health Benefits of Physical Activity Focus Area. If you are not currently teaching this Focus Area, or perhaps not doing it as well as you would like to, please do not be put off attending. We want to hear from you about your perspectives, ideas and how we can best support you.
The event will be hosted by
- Dr John Williams, Chair of ACHPER ACT
- Dylan Hunt, post-graduate scholar, University of Canberra.
It will also include a short Keynote by Dr Michael Davies, Associate Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Science, University of Canberra. Dr Davies will present evidence-based information to help you deliver this important Focus Area and will also provide you with lesson plans fully aligned to the Australian Curriculum.
Similar to previous years, this symposium will include a research element: A study of how Canberra Year 5/6 teachers are teaching the Australian Curriculum health benefits of physical activity Focus Area (subject to ethics approval) that all Year 5/6 attendees are invited to participate in.
Please note that participation is entirely voluntary and those taking part can withdraw their participation at any time without consequence. Further, people who do not wish to take part in the proposed research (any interested teachers and professionals) are most welcome to attend this symposium which is also designed as a networking opportunity.
