Join us for the ACHPER ACT symposium, designed for HPE primary and secondary teachers and university teaching students. Our 2022 conference themes are:

Curriculum changes and considerations to practice

Janice Atkin, Professional Learning Officer, ACHPER NSW
Leading curriculum consultant Janice Atkin will outline the key changes to the revised curriculum and considerations to practice. Janice has worked as a PDHPE teacher, Head Teacher and curriculum consultant for 30 years. She has extensive experience with curriculum development in Australia and internationally. 

9.30am-3.30pm  Workshops
Each attendee will take part in 4 workshops. When registering for the symposium, you’ll be asked to select 8 workshop preferences. Based on demand, you’ll be allocated 4 to attend.

Unless indicated, all workshops are suitable for primary and secondary teachers.

Workshop 3: Effective curriculum assessment
Enhance student learning and curriculum alignment through contemporary and engaging assessment approaches.

Workshop 4: Aboriginal pedagogy
Advancing games and sport teaching in physical education to move towards a culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy.

Workshop 5: Indigenous games
Reinvigorating sensory experiences using Indigenous games tailored for all students.

Workshop 6: Everyone Everyday Program
Supporting schools to create inclusive environments for people with a disability via professional learning opportunities and comprehensive teaching resources.

Workshop 7: Building respectful relationships – for primary only
Responsive curriculum and pedagogy for sexuality and consent education, and the importance of student voice.

Workshop 8: Building respectful relationships – for secondary
Responsive curriculum and pedagogy for sexuality and consent education, and the importance of student voice.

Workshop 9: Teaching respectful relationships through movement and dance – for secondary
Rhythmic movement and social dance as practical pedagogy for respectful relationship and consent education.

Workshop 10: Fashioning formidable females – strength training and social change
From consent and setting boundaries to barbells and box jumps. Dr Sally Bromley and Faith Bentley dive into diversity of body and mind, discussing puberty, sex positivity and ways students can build and maintain respectful relationships – all while lifting barbells and practicing self-defence.

Workshop 11: ACT Safe and Inclusion Schools
Building the capacity of school staff to support individual student needs, celebrate community and family diversity, and create positive school culture.

Workshop 12: Re-engaging unmotivated students
Responsive pedagogy to reinvigorate physical education for all students.

Workshop 13: PE for students with blindness and low vision
Developing inclusive games and sports tailored for all students including those with blindness and low vision.

Workshop 14: PE for students with physical disability
Developing inclusive games and sports tailored for all students including those with physical disability.
