Teaching respect - Olympics reflection

Teaching respect in the classroom is a task that teachers must do almost daily. In PDHPE, it is core learning in both the way we interact with others in social situations, but also they way we act and respond on the sporting field. The Tokyo Olympics, as always, have presented us with some amazing demonstrations of respect amongst athletes that we can draw on to illustrate the nature and power of respect.

Stage 4:

  • apply behaviours that illustrate ethical and inclusive behaviours for other students during physical activity

Stage 5:

  • demonstrate an understanding of ethical and fair behaviours across a variety of physical activities, eg equitable participation of people with disability in physical activities
  • describe the contribution they make as an individual to teamwork, leadership and enjoyable participation for all and assess the influence this has on others to participate in physical activities
